VERDICT: Comfortable, convenient, generously equipped, and competitively priced, the Palisade is one of our favorite three-row family SUVs. HIGHS: Crazy-quick acceleration, enthusiast-oriented rear-wheel-drive mode, luscious interior. Wow, a mention of the Subaru Impreza in a positive context. VERDICT: Fashionable styling, a comfortable and well-equipped cabin, and a refined V-6 powertrain make the Carnival a desirable entry in the minivan segment. It also has quiet electric motors and an internal combustion engine that doesn't have to over-perform. It shares its parts with the Skoda Octavia and SEAT Leon but manages to be quieter than both on a variety of roads. VERDICT: The Passport is a very practical and nicely equipped mid-size SUV, but it's not particularly special. HIGHS: Upscale interior, snappy acceleration from twin-turbo V-6, lovely two-door styling. We were surprised to see the otherwise quite refined Honda Civic (72.8dB) down the ranks, too, though we can obviously excuse the noisiest COTY contenders, the Subaru BRZ (75.75dB) and Hyundai i20 N (74.65dB) for being sports cars with deliberately enticing soundtracks. HIGHS: Svelte styling, big trunk space increases practicality, eager driving dynamics. Because it's hard for car shoppers to determine how quiet a car is in a short test drive, Consumer Reports tests all models to determine the best new cars with the quietest cabin. LOWS: Doesn't appear as grand as it is, digital gauges sacrifice craftsmanship, adaptive cruise doesn't work as well as it should. The only sounds that can be heard in the interior are a soft humming from the electric engine and a background rumble from the large tires moving over the road. HIGHS: Athleticism and quickness, impressive range and accessible price, capacious and luxurious cabin. VERDICT: With 591 horsepower and fierce-looking sheetmetal, the Audi RS7 is a brutally quick and surprisingly polished hatchback.
